Basketball Recap: Independence Falls Despite Big Games from Harmony Mills and Lacey Goodson

Independence lost against Greenbrier East back in November of 2018 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Independence Patriots lost 62-40 to the Greenbrier East Spartans. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while the Spartans are ranked fourth).

Independence's loss came despite strong showings from Lacey Goodson and Harmony Mills. Goodson dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards, while Mills posted 20 points. That was a full 40% of Independence's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. Aileen Chen also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Independence dropped their record down to 5-11 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Greenbrier East, their record now sits at 17-1.

When Independence and Greenbrier East next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Independence will square off against Princeton and their three-game winning streak at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Greenbrier East will try to stop Logan's five-game winning streak when the meet at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
