Basketball Recap: Gray Collegiate Academy Piles Up the Points Against South Aiken

On Tuesday, the Gray Collegiate Academy War Eagles humbled the South Aiken Thoroughbreds with an 82-42 victory. The War Eagles pushed the score to 57-31 by the end of the third, a deficit the Thoroughbreds had little chance of recovering from.

Hunter Mcgraw was a one-man wrecking crew for Gray Collegiate Academy as he went 6 for 9 on his way to 17 points in addition to seven assists and four steals. The dominant performance gave Mcgraw a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Quan Mcduffie, who went 6 for 8 on his way to 16 points.

Despite the loss, South Aiken saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Deon Simpkins went 6 of 14 on his way to 14 points and four steals. Simpkins is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Kyson McLeod was another key player, putting up eight points and six rebounds.

Gray Collegiate Academy has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.2 points per game. As for South Aiken, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gray Collegiate Academy will host Aiken at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Gray Collegiate Academy is facing Aiken at the right time seeing as Aiken is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for South Aiken, they and Strom Thurmond will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday without much rest having both just played. South Aiken is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.7 points per game this season.
