Basketball Recap: Gilbert Takes a Loss

Gilbert was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 24th straight loss dating back to last season. They were beaten by the Shepaug Valley Spartans 82-40. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Yellowjackets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 105-36 back in December of 2024.

It was another big night for Reed Woerner, who went 10 of 17 on his way to 23 points along with eight rebounds and five assists for Shepaug Valley. Woerner's evening made it 13 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was James Kersten, who went 7 for 10 en route to 17 points.

Gilbert's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Shepaug Valley, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 13-0.

Gilbert wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 65-15 loss against Seymour on the 27th. As for Shepaug Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 70-64 win against Northwestern Regional on the 27th.
