Baseball Recap: East Comes Up Short

If East was riding high fresh off their 14-7 takedown of Badger last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. East took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Newton Falls Tigers on Wednesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to East of the 10-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

East saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Yadiel Lopez, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Lopez has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

East has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Newton Falls, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-4.

Looking ahead, Newton Falls will head out to square off against LaBrae at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. East will be paying especially close attention to Newton Falls' contest: after Newton Falls faces off against LaBrae, they'll take on East again at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
