Football Recap: Wayne Christian Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Wayne Christian can now relate to. They lost 28-7 to the Asheville School (Independent) Blues on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 336th, while the Blues are ranked 117th).

When it comes to explaining why Wayne Christian lost, don't look at Devin Davis. Despite the final result, he rushed for 77 yards and one TD. Davis showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 51 yards.

Shiloh Mukendi produced another solid performance rushing for 108 yards and one score on only seven carries for Asheville School (Independent). Another player making a difference was Marvyn Larozar, who gained 71 total yards and a touchdown.

Wayne Christian has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for Asheville School (Independent), they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2-1 record this season.

Wayne Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Asheville School (Independent), they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Trinity Christian at 7:00 p.m. The Crusaders' defense has only allowed 13.8 points per game this season, so the Blues' offense will have their work cut out for them.
