After flying high against King's Way Christian last Friday, Meridian came back down to earth. The Trojans took a 21-13 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mt. Baker Mountaineers on Friday. If the Trojans were looking for revenge after losing 7-0 to the Mountaineers when the teams met back in November of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

When it comes to explaining why Meridian lost, don't look at Pierce Brzozowski. Despite the final result, he threw for 174 yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 31 yards and one score.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Brice Cooper and Gage Smith. Cooper rushed for 85 yards and a pair of TDs on only nine carries while Smith rushed for 124 yards on only 11 carries.

Having lost for the first time this season, Meridian fell to 5-1. As for Mt. Baker, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Meridian will square off against Nooksack Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pioneers will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last. As for Mt. Baker, they will challenge Lynden Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lyncs' defense has only allowed 9.5 points per game this season, so the Mountaineers' offense will have their work cut out for them.
