Dan River is 8-2 against Gretna since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the Hawks at 5:30 p.m. Dan River is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
Dan River was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Nelson County on Friday. The Wildcats blew past the Governors 18-1. The Wildcats have beaten the Governors the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Governors has come to flipping the script.

Taylor Pritchett made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Pritchett was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three runs. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Dan River got a massive performance out of Kenley Cundiff, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. That's the most doubles Cundiff has posted since back in April of 2025. Riley Hughes was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Dan River hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Gretna was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They came up short against William Campbell, falling 9-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Hawks have suffered against the Generals since March 27, 2023.
Gretna saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hope Hendricks, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Makayla Morris also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Gretna's loss dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Dan River, their record is now 10-4.
Gretna's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Dan River hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .379. It's a different story for Gretna, though, as they've only averaged .219. Will they be able to contain Dan River's hitters?
Everything went Dan River's way against Gretna when the teams last played back in April, as Dan River made off with a 6-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
