League recap: Vermilion scores huge upset over Bay

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Vermilion, who took down 345th ranked Bay, 19-14.

Midview extended the longest winning streak in West Shore this week by beating North Ridgeville, 8-0. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.

Rocky River's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Matt Lowry threw for 68 and one touchdown and Bob Osborn had 68 yards receiving. On the ground Martin Finnegan chipped in 89 yards. Pat Connors helped Rocky River's passing attack out by catching two balls for 46 yards.

Midview's Cody Callaway and Eric Lauer have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Callaway has thrown for 1367 yards this season, while Lauer, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 28 catches for 610 yards. The Pirates' Finnegan leads the league in rushing yards with 512.

The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Midview takes on second place Avon. Bill Albright's team bested the Rangers last week, while Avon beat Elyria Catholic.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Middies take on the Eagles. Midview has allowed 81 points this season, while Avon has given up 80. The Middies allowed 0 points last week as they defeated North Ridgeville.

The Sailors moved up to 594 from 643 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in West Shore. Vermilion was able to make the jump by beating the Rockets 19-14.
