Basketball Recap: Southview Comes Up Short

After flying high against Clay last Thursday, Southview came back down to earth. The Southview Cougars were beaten by the Genoa Area Comets 66-32 on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 494th, while the Comets are ranked 148th).

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mikayla Dorn, who posted eight points and seven boards. Amani Woodard was another key player, putting up six points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Southview was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive games.

Southview's defeat dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Genoa Area, they pushed their record up to 14-4 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Southview Cougars duke it out with the Napoleon Wildcats at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Genoa Area, they will welcome Otsego at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Genoa Area is facing Otsego at the right time seeing as Otsego is stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
