Charlotte is a perfect 5-0 against Sexton since March of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Orioles will host the Big Reds at 4:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Charlotte's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Sexton has been banged up by nine consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
Charlotte came out on top against Montabella on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run sixth inning. The Orioles put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 11-1 victory. Considering the Orioles have won three contests by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Mason Croley made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out 13 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Croley was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run.
In other batting news, Ty Bowzer and Aiden Buhs did most of the damage at the plate: Bowzer went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Buhs went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Jack Davy, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Charlotte was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .457. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Sexton lost 19-3 to Eastern on Thursday.
Charlotte is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Sexton, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
Everything went Charlotte's way against Sexton in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Charlotte made off with a 33-1 victory. Do the Orioles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Big Reds turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
