Basketball Recap: Camp Verde Takes a Loss

Camp Verde lost against Fountain Hills back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Camp Verde Cowboys were outmatched by the Fountain Hills Falcons and fell 50-23. While losing is never fun, the Cowboys can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 169th, while the Falcons are ranked 50th).

Camp Verde's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jazmin Torres, who posted five points in addition to nine boards and four steals. Torres has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Clancy Murdock, who put up two points.

Fountain Hills' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Seilah Smith, who had ten points along with seven steals and five assists. Mikayla Smith was another key player, going 6 for 7 on her way to 14 points and three steals.

Camp Verde has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Fountain Hills, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.

Camp Verde didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 57-11 victory against Anthem Prep on the 17th. As for Fountain Hills, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 71-5 win against Highland Prep West on the 22nd.
