Baseball Recap: Lafayette Has No Trouble Against New Hope

After low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Lafayette brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. Everything went their way against the New Hope Trojans on Friday as they made off with a 12-1 win. That looming 12-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Commodores yet this season.

Brett Williams looked comfortable as he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

On the hitting side, Easton Thompson was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tanner Harris, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Lafayette's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-7. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for New Hope, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 7-1-1 and their overall record down to 10-7-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lafayette will host Hernando at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Commodores 3.5, the Tigers 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for New Hope, they will be playing at home against Clarksdale at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
