Baseball Recap: Rio Rico Hawks vs. Sunnyside Blue Devils
Rio Rico had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 12-13 to make it four. They lost 8-0 to the Sunnyside Blue Devils. If the Hawks were looking for revenge after losing 10-0 to the Blue Devils when the teams met back in February of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
As for Sunnyside, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-8. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by seven runs or more this season.
For Sunnyside's part, DOMINIC THOMPSON looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. THOMPSON has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Sunnyside got a massive performance out of EMRICK THOMPSON, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI THOMPSON has posted since back in March. MICHEL MUNIZ was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and one run.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rio Rico will challenge Salpointe Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
