Volleyball Recap: Cardinal Huskies vs. Kirtland Hornets

If Cardinal was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Beachwood last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cardinal Huskies fell just short of the Kirtland Hornets by a score of 3-2 on Saturday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Huskies of the 3-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Cardinal sadly dropped the once that decided the match. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 22-25, 25-21, 19-25, 15-12.

Nina Alfieri continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Kirtland, getting 46 digs. Alfieri has been hot recently, having posted 13 or more digs the last 12 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Javins, who had 17 digs, five aces, and a kill.

After both having extra time off, Kirtland and Valley Christian will shake off the cobwebs and square off against one another at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Valley Christian is coming into the game with eight straight defeats on the road, meaning Kirtland will have to defend against a team hungry for a win.
