Football Recap: Washington Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Washington extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to seven on Friday, dropping them down to 0-5. They were beaten by the West Craven Eagles 36-6. While losing is never fun, the Pam Pack can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 298th, while the Eagles are ranked 81st).

Evan Makepeace threw for 62 yards on five of 14 attempts. Jarryn Payne was his top target, picking up 36 receiving yards and one TD. On the ground, Anderson Thomas rushed for 82 yards.

As for West Craven, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 35.3 points over those games.

A big part of West Craven's victory came down to the chemistry between DJ Davis and his top target Xavier Cuthbertson. Davis rushed for 138 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries while Cuthbertson gained 117 total yards and two touchdowns. Cuthbertson didn't just play on offense: he also forced one fumble, made two total tackles, and defended two passes.

Coincidentally, Washington and West Craven will both be playing North Johnston the next time they take the field. The Pam Pack will head out to face the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Eagles will host them at 7:00 p.m. on October 10.
