Basketball Game Preview: Elyria Pioneers vs. Avon Eagles

Elyria hasn't had much luck against Avon recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Elyria Pioneers will look to defend their home court against the Avon Eagles at 12:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Elyria is headed into Saturday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 23rd straight game dating back to last season on Wednesday. They had to suffer through a 63-20 loss at the hands of Berea-Midpark. While losing is never fun, the Pioneers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 423rd, while the Titans are ranked 180th).

Meanwhile, Avon's undefeated season came to an end after five games on Wednesday. They received a blow as they fell 50-34 to Avon Lake. The contest marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Elyria's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Avon, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.

Elyria suffered a grim 54-32 defeat to Avon when the teams last played back in January. Can Elyria avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
