Basketball Recap: Laney Fayard and Laylianah Mcbrayer Secure Win for Orange County

Orange County's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They secured a 49-45 W over the Fluvanna County Flying Flucos. The win continues a trend for the Fighting Hornets in their matchups with the Flying Flucos: they've now won four in a row.

Leading Orange County to victory were Laylianah McBrayer and Laney Fayard. McBrayer went 9-for-13 on her way to 19 points and six rebounds, while Fayard dropped a double-double with 16 points and 16 boards. Fayard is becoming a predictor of Orange County's success: when she posts at least eight rebounds the team is undefeated (and 6-10 when she doesn't).

Despite the defeat, Fluvanna County had strong showings from Ikeena Spruill, who posted six points along with nine boards and six assists, and Sienna Brennan, who put up 16 points. That was a full 35.6% of Fluvanna County's points, marking the third time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points. Sophie Brennan was another key player, putting up eight points and four steals.

Orange County's record is now 12-10. As for Fluvanna County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season.
