Softball Recap: Avon Falcons vs. Enfield Eagles
Avon dropped their record down to 15-6-1 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Enfield Eagles, falling 13-1. The Falcons were red-hot at the plate heading into the matchup (they scored no less than ten runs in the three games prior), but the Eagles' pitchers proved too tough.
As for Enfield, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. The result was nothing new for Enfield, who have now won 12 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
For Enfield's part, Payten Stebbins was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). Stebbins has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Enfield got a massive performance out of Emily Lyver, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Hailey Anderson, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Coming up, Avon will face off against Canton at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Enfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
