Softball Game Preview: Bishop O'Connell Knights vs. Saint Gertrude Gators

The Bishop O'Connell Knights will challenge the Saint Gertrude Gators at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Bishop O'Connell is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Bishop O'Connell is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: St. Mary's Ryken, who was ranked second in their home state at the time (Bishop O'Connell was ranked first). Bishop O'Connell came out on top against St. Mary's Ryken by a score of 6-3 on Saturday.

MJ Melvin was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Gigi Payne was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Bishop O'Connell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March.

Meanwhile, Saint Gertrude unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They lost 11-1 to Trinity Episcopal. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Gators have suffered against the Titans since April 19, 2023.

Saint Gertrude's loss dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Bishop O'Connell, their win bumped their record up to 17-0.

Everything went Bishop O'Connell's way against Saint Gertrude in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, as Bishop O'Connell made off with a 16-0 victory. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Gators have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
