Basketball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Bertie

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Bertie had no problem doing just that on Friday. They came out on top against the Lakewood Leopards by a score of 52-42. The score was all tied up 23-23 at the break, but the Falcons were the better team in the second half.

It was another big night for Zymiere Dempsey, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 17 boards. His evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 19 points. Another player making a difference was Tayvien Ward, who posted 14 points.

Xavier Hall and Cameron Williams certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Hall almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds, while Williams had 11 points and five boards. Hall is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least nine every time he's taken the court this season.

The win was the fourth in a row for Bertie, bringing their record for this year to 15-11. As for Lakewood, their defeat ended a 12-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 22-2.

Looking ahead, Bertie will head out to take on Northampton County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Northampton County is on a nine-game streak of home wins, Bertie a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Lakewood does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
