Baseball Game Preview: Mountain View Mountain Lions vs. Fort Collins Lambkins

The Mountain View Mountain Lions will square off against the Fort Collins Lambkins at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mountain View is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.

Mountain View is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Greeley Central get on the board and left with a 19-0 victory on Monday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Mountain Lions with their most commanding win of the season.

Tristan Gilbert was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Mountain View's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Derek Parker, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Mountain View always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Fort Collins, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They skirted past Arvada West 5-4.

Porter Park looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kaden Souders, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024. Ben Hopper was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

The win got Mountain View back to even at 5-5. As for Fort Collins, their victory bumped their record up to 4-6.

Mountain View suffered a grim 12-1 defeat to Fort Collins when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Mountain Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
