Basketball Recap: Marion County Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Marion County can now relate to. They lost to the Athens Bible Trojans on the road by a 64-45 margin on Saturday. The Red Raiders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Marion County still got an impressive performance from Tye Madison, who shot 4-for-7 from downtown and dropped a double-double with 20 points and 13 boards. With that strong performance, Madison is now averaging an impressive 8.1 rebounds per game. Another player making a difference was Philip Wilson, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and nine boards.

Even though they lost, Marion County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in six consecutive games.

Athens Bible was led to victory by Noah Hester and Luke Murrell. Hester went 11-for-16 to rack up 25 points and seven rebounds, while Murrell went 7-for-15 en route to 19 points in addition to seven boards and five steals. That's the most steals Murrell has posted since back in December of 2024. Will Ledbetter was another key player, putting up seven points.

Marion County's defeat dropped their record down to 12-16. As for Athens Bible, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-10.

Marion County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Athens Bible, they have already played their next contest, a 41-39 loss against Meek on the 11th.
