Baseball Game Preview: Centennial Bulldogs vs. Basic Wolves

Centennial and Basic are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Bulldogs will head out to take on the Wolves at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Centennial is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Bishop Gorman a 5-0 shutout. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.

Jake Turner made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over 6.1 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Terrell Otis, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Basic faced Arbor View in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Wolves had just enough and edged out the Aggies 5-3. The victory continues a trend for the Wolves in their matchups with the Aggies: they've now won seven in a row.

Basic pushed their record up to 19-6 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Centennial, their record is now 20-12.

Centennial suffered a grim 8-1 defeat to Basic in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
