Basketball Recap: Hardin-Jefferson Takes a Loss

Hardin-Jefferson and La Vega squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Hardin-Jefferson had to settle for second. They were outmatched by the La Vega Pirates and fell 61-29. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 370th, while the Pirates are ranked 21st).

La Vega got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was CeMaria Kelly out in front who posted 13 points and seven rebounds. Kelly continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cra'Lajah Bradley, who had 12 points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Hardin-Jefferson's defeat dropped their record down to 20-13. As for La Vega, they are on a roll lately: they've won 20 of their last 22 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 30-6 record this season.

Hardin-Jefferson does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for La Vega, they will challenge China Spring on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with China Spring sitting on four straight victories and La Vega on 13.
