Baseball Game Preview: Sweetwater Red Devils vs. Hilltop Lancers

The Sweetwater Red Devils will challenge the Hilltop Lancers at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Sweetwater turned things around against Chula Vista on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over the Spartans.

Daniel Vidal was excellent, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run. He has become a key player for Sweetwater: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 5-10 otherwise. Jayden Rodriguez was another key player, going 1-for-5 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Hilltop, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Otay Ranch 7-5.

Hilltop's win bumped their record up to 7-14. As for Sweetwater, their victory bumped their record up to 9-11.

Sweetwater couldn't quite finish off Hilltop when the teams last played back in May of 2022 and fell 4-2. Can the Red Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
