Softball Recap: Avery County Comes Up Short

Avery County extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to ten on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-5. They came up short against the Madison Patriots, falling 14-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Vikings of the 15-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2025.

Madison's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

For Madison's part, Rylee Plemmons spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. Those 11 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Plemmons.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Addie Sams, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Paige Peek was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Coming up, Madison will challenge A.C. Reynolds at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Avery County will be paying especially close attention to the Patriots' contest: after the Patriots face off against the Rockets, they'll take on Avery County again at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
