The Flatirons Academy Bison will head out on the road to challenge the SkyView Academy Hawks at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Flatirons Academy is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: Lyons, who was ranked 25th at the time (Flatirons Academy was ranked 23rd). The Bison fell 3-1 to the Lions on Thursday. The loss was the Bison's first of the season.
While Flatirons Academy ultimately came up short, they didn't go down without a fight: they scored at least 18 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 25-18, 21-25, 25-21.
Flatirons Academy's defeat came about despite a quality game from Tessa Miller, who had 21 digs and one assist.
Dawson School came into Thursday's match looking for another win against SkyView Academy, but Taylor Bales wouldn't allow it. The Hawks came out on top against the Mustangs by a score of 3-1 on Thursday for which the team can thank Bales, who had 15 digs. She is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last seven games she's played.
SkyView Academy was especially dominant in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-8, 25-16, 14-25, 25-17.
SkyView Academy's win bumped their record up to 10-5. As for Flatirons Academy, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 11-1.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's matchup: Flatirons Academy has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 10.7 aces per game. However, it's not like SkyView Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.9 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Flatirons Academy's way against SkyView Academy in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as Flatirons Academy made off with a 3-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bison since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
