Softball Game Preview: Clayton Comets vs. Fuquay - Varina Bengals

The Clayton Comets will face off against the Fuquay - Varina Bengals at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Clayton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.

Clayton took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Southeast Raleigh a 15-0 shutout. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Comets considering their two-run performance the game before.

Mira Gorman was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Jenny Clement was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Clayton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .875. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Fuquay - Varina's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They came up short against Garner, falling 15-4.

Clayton's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Fuquay - Varina, their loss dropped their record down to 11-6.
