Baseball Recap: Germantown Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Collierville, Germantown was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They walked away with a 9-6 victory over the Southwind Jaguars. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 10-1 victory on April 7th.

Jeremy Parker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 14 Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Germantown's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 8-4 (and 3-7 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Germantown got a big performance out of Jayden Atkins, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. The Red Devils are 6-1 when Atkins posts two or more runs, but 5-10 otherwise. Jacob Jones was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

The win got Germantown back to even at 11-11. As for Southwind, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-8.

Coming up, Germantown will be playing in front of their home fans against White Station at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Southwind, they will head out on the road to face off against Kirby at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
