Hawthorne dropped their record down to 6-3 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They lost 11-1 to the Rutherford Bulldogs. If the Bears were looking for revenge after losing 7-1 to the Bulldogs when the teams met back in April of 2022, then they'll just have to keep looking.
As for Rutherford, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. Considering they have won six games by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
For Rutherford's part, Andrew Erickson made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Erickson was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Rutherford got a big performance out of Chris Gioia, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Myles Balchan also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Coming up, Hawthorne will square off against Wood-Ridge at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Rutherford, they will be playing at home against Lyndhurst at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Bears' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
