Football Recap: Canutillo Sets Scoring Season-High Against Jefferson

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Canutillo). They never let the Jefferson Silver Foxes get on the board and left with a 59-0 win on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Silver Foxes: they've now won six in a row.

Canutillo was led to victory by Jarid Gamiz and Cesar Huerta. Gamiz gained 224 total yards and a touchdown, while Huerta rushed for 18 yards and three touchdowns. Gamiz's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 140 rushing yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Canutillo was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 406 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 189 rushing yards in five consecutive games.

Canutillo didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Elijah Martinez.

Canutillo picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 4-2. As for Jefferson, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Coincidentally, Canutillo and Jefferson will both be playing Chapin the next time they take the field. The Eagles will host the Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Silver Foxes will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th.
