Basketball Preview: Hampton Roads Academy Navigators vs. Norfolk Collegiate Mighty Oaks
The Hampton Roads Academy Navigators will head out on the road to square off against the Norfolk Collegiate Mighty Oaks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hampton Roads Academy is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Last Thursday, Hampton Roads Academy had to suffer through a rough 58-26 loss at the hands of the Bulldogs. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Hampton Roads Academy has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Norfolk Collegiate put the finishing touches on their tenth blowout victory of the season on Saturday. They blew past Kecoughtan 86-64. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Norfolk Collegiate got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Rashaad Williams out in front who scored 18 points along with eight assists and six rebounds. Williams hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Justin Burrough, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Hampton Roads Academy has not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season. As for Norfolk Collegiate, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season.
Hampton Roads Academy was dealt a bruising 90-53 defeat at the hands of the Mighty Oaks when the teams last played back in February of 2023. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Hampton Roads Academy was down 57-25.
