Basketball Game Preview: Houston County Lions vs. Providence Christian Eagles

Houston County hasn't had much luck against Providence Christian recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Houston County Lions will head out on the road to challenge the Providence Christian Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Houston County is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They were just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 66-65 to Samson. The Lions' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Meanwhile, Providence Christian entered their tilt with Geneva County on Tuesday with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. They beat the Bulldogs by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 90-42. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while the Bulldogs are ranked 387th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Providence Christian pushed their record up to 22-3 with the win, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.9 points per game. As for Houston County, their loss dropped their record down to 2-16.

Houston County was dealt a bruising 54-25 defeat at the hands of Providence Christian when the teams last played on January 9th. Can Houston County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
