Baseball Recap: Foothill Triumphs

Foothill's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They never let the Acalanes Dons get on the board and left with a 2-0 win. The Falcons were shut out 3-0 the last time they took on the Dons, so the Falcons were just returning the favor.

Not much got past Ryan Cooney, who gave up just seven hits to keep Acalanes off the board. Cooney also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Foothill is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 1-3 otherwise.

At the plate, Foothill's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was George Schmitt, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

The win got Foothill back to even at 4-4. As for Acalanes, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Foothill will square off against California at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Grizzlies have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season. As for Acalanes, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Westview at 4:00 p.m. on the 30th.
