Basketball Game Preview: St. Ignatius Wildcats vs. Avon Eagles

The St. Ignatius Wildcats will venture away from home to face off against the Avon Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in St. Ignatius' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine contests.

St. Ignatius is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Ohio's top teams: Louisville, who was ranked 12th at the time (St. Ignatius was ranked first). St. Ignatius fell just short of Louisville by a score of 67-65 on Friday.

Meanwhile, Avon posted their closest victory since December 19, 2023 on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Lorain, sneaking past 54-51. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Titans: they've now won four in a row.

St. Ignatius' loss dropped their record down to 17-4. As for Avon, their victory bumped their record up to 12-9.

St. Ignatius took their win against Avon in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 76-52. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Ignatius since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
