The Schalmont Sabres are taking a road trip to take on the La Salle Institute Cadets at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
Schalmont had to skate by with only a one-set margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the three-set drubbing they dealt Mechanicville on Friday. The Sabres put the hurt on the Red Raiders with a sharp 3-0 victory. The Sabres not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since September 18th (when they won 3-0).
While Schalmont might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Mechanicville scored at least 20 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-21, 25-21, 25-20.
Meanwhile, La Salle Institute had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They blew past the Cannoneers 3-0.
La Salle Institute was especially dominant in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 25-15, 25-19.
Schalmont better keep an eye on Alaina Winther. She was instrumental in La Salle Institute's win, getting 11 digs and two aces. What's more, Winther posted three assists, the most she's had since back in September.
La Salle Institute was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 17 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least 14 aces in three consecutive matchups.
Schalmont's record is now 8-10. As for La Salle Institute, their record now sits at 19-7-2.
Schalmont suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to La Salle Institute in their previous matchup back in October. Can the Sabres avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
