Softball Game Preview: Covington Trojans vs. North Vermillion Falcons

The Covington Trojans will square off against the North Vermillion Falcons at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Covington managed to slip by South Vermillion the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Trojans lost 9-3 to the Wildcats on Saturday.

Lauren Hardy made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, North Vermillion was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against Riverton Parke, falling 20-3.

North Vermillion saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tessa Downs, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Covington's defeat dropped their record down to 14-10. As for North Vermillion, their loss dropped their record down to 2-15.

North Vermillion's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Covington has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. It's a different story for North Vermillion, though, as they've been averaging 12.5 hits. Given Covington's sizable advantage in that area, the Falcons will need to find a way to close that gap.

Covington got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in May of 2025 against North Vermillion by a conclusive 13-1 score. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
