Baseball Recap: Laurel Golden Tornadoes vs. Vancleave Bulldogs
Laurel had lost eight straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-20 to make it nine. They lost 13-2 to the Vancleave Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, with their most recent loss being a 14-0 defeat on Tuesday.
As for Vancleave, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-5 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by six runs or more this season.
For Vancleave's part, Carter Doze looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Maddox Henley and Anthony Buxton did most of the damage at the plate: Henley got on base in both of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs, while Buxton went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two runs gave Henley a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cam Sherrod, who earned two runs and two stolen bases.
Coming up, Laurel will face off against Vicksburg at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Vancleave does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
