Basketball Recap: Shelby-Rising City Sets Scoring Season-High Against Hampton

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Shelby-Rising City). They came out on top against the Hampton Hawks by a score of 51-43 on Friday. That's more bragging rights for the Huskies, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Taya Pinneo was her usual excellent self, going 10 of 22 on her way to 25 points and three steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Kaleigh Ruth was another key player, putting up 11 points and six rebounds.

Shelby-Rising City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

When it comes to explaining why Hampton lost, don't look at Gavin Gilmore. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 34 points and 16 boards. That was a full 79.1% of Hampton's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Macy Miller, who put up two points along with seven assists and six rebounds.

Shelby-Rising City's victory bumped their record up to 4-8. As for Hampton, their defeat was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-12.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Nebraska Lutheran the next time they take the court. Shelby-Rising City will host Nebraska Lutheran at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, while Hampton will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
