Basketball Game Preview: Scituate Spartans vs. Ponaganset Chieftains

The Scituate Spartans are taking a road trip to square off against the Ponaganset Chieftains at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

If Scituate beats Ponaganset with 71 points on Thursday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. Scituate enjoyed a cozy 71-56 win over Blackstone Valley Prep on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spartans.

Meanwhile, Ponaganset entered their tilt with Hope on Tuesday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They walked away with a 67-54 victory over the Blue Wave.

Ponaganset is also on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.7 points per game. As for Scituate, they pushed their record up to 8-10 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Scituate was dealt a bruising 65-28 loss at the hands of Ponaganset when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can Scituate avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
