Softball Game Preview: MacArthur Brahmas vs. South San Antonio Bobcats

MacArthur hasn't had much luck against South San Antonio recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Brahmas will face off against the Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Saturday, MacArthur beat Southside 4-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Brahmas.

Meanwhile, South San Antonio had already won ten in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it 11 on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Cardinals a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Bobcats have won 13 matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

South San Antonio got a great performance from Catalina Bonilla as she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Bonilla has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Alexa Torres was a standout: she scored two runs while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Leia Laque, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.

South San Antonio kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

South San Antonio's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-6. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for MacArthur, their record now sits at 13-10-1.

MacArthur couldn't quite get it done against South San Antonio in their previous matchup back in March as they fell 10-5. Can the Brahmas avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
