Volleyball Recap: Westfield Starts off Right with Win over Yorktown

Westfield gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They put the hurt on the Yorktown Tigers with a sharp 3-0 win. The Shamrocks were shut out 3-0 the last time they took on the Tigers, so the Shamrocks were just returning the favor.

Westfield never let Yorktown on the board, but things got pretty close in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 25-18, 25-18.

Georgia Bresnahan paced Westfield's offense, picking up ten kills. Bresnahan got some help from Kenna Robinson and her 24 assists. Finally, Carsyn Comer kept Westfield's defense grounded, leading the team with five blocks.

Westfield is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will square off against Pendleton Heights at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Yorktown, they will be playing at home against Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers are facing the Braves at the right time seeing as the Braves are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
