Masuk beats Pomperaug for their third straight win

Recap: Masuk Panthers vs. Pomperaug Panthers

The Masuk Panthers had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Everything went their way against Pomperaug as Masuk made off with a 43-22 win. The result was nothing new for Masuk, who have now won four matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.

Jason Champagne continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 213 yards and four touchdowns on only 14 carries. Champagne was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 69 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of aaron champagne, who threw for 173 yards and a touchdown.

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Johnny Gogas, who rushed for 63 yards and two touchdowns.

Even if they lost, Pomperaug's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Leading the way was Chris Elovecky and his two sacks.

Masuk's win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 5-1. Even more impressive is the teams they beat to make that streak: Pomperaug, Joel Barlow, and Bunnell. As for Pomperaug, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Masuk will take on Notre Dame Catholic at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The pair might be coming in a bit winded given how much these teams ran in their prior games. As for Pomperaug, they will head out on the road to face off against Stratford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Stratford comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
