Basketball Game Preview: Orangeburg-Wilkinson Bruins vs. Battery Creek Dolphins

The Orangeburg-Wilkinson Bruins will face off against the Battery Creek Dolphins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Orangeburg-Wilkinson has six straight victories, Battery Creek has 11 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Tuesday, Orangeburg-Wilkinson blew past North Charleston, posting a 60-14 win. The Bruins have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Orangeburg-Wilkinson's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Shanaza McCorkle, who went 7 for 12 on her way to 17 points along with seven steals and six assists. Those 17 points gave McCorkle a new career-high. Alexia Cleckley was another key player, putting up 16 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 69-28, which was the final score in Battery Creek's tilt against Oceanside Collegiate Academy on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Dolphins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 217th, while the Landsharks are ranked 52nd).

Orangeburg-Wilkinson is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. As for Battery Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 3-13.
