Volleyball Recap: Gaston Day Takes Down Rocky Mount Academy in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Gaston Day had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Rocky Mount Academy Eagles with a sharp 3-0 win. The Spartans not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since September 25th (when they won 3-0).

While Gaston Day won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the second set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 26-24, 25-17.

Ava Blanton was a one-woman wrecking crew as she had 18 digs and four aces. She has been hot recently, having posted 11 or more digs the last four times she's played.

Blanton wasn't the only good servers: Gaston Day was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 11 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least seven aces in three consecutive matchups.

Gaston Day's victory was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-4. As for Rocky Mount Academy, their loss ended an eight-match streak of away wins and brought them to 19-3.

Coming up, Gaston Day will be playing at home against St. Thomas More Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Rocky Mount Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
