Baseball Game Preview: Chino Valley Cougars vs. Odyssey Institute Minotaur

Chino Valley is 7-2 against Odyssey Institute since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. Chino Valley will head out to face off against Odyssey Institute at 3:45 p.m. Odyssey Institute took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Chino Valley, who comes in off a win.

Chino Valley was handed a six-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Kingman 3-1. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Jacob Boivin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in earned runs (zero).

On the hitting side, Chino Valley let Kaycin Pickett and Caden Todd run wild. Pickett scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Todd scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Those two hits gave Todd a new career-high. Jaks McNair also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Odyssey Institute fell victim to Yuma Catholic and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 21-0 to the Shamrocks. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Minotaur were not able to get on the board.

Odyssey Institute saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Justin Bennett, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

Odyssey Institute's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 3-4-1. As for Chino Valley, the victory got them back to even at 5-5-1.

Chino Valley couldn't quite finish off Odyssey Institute in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 9-7. Can Chino Valley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
