Baseball Recap: Mitchell Comes Up Short

After flying high against Weeki Wachee on Wednesday, Mitchell came back down to earth. The Mustangs lost 11-4 to the Nature Coast Tech Sharks on Thursday. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Mustangs, who until this contest were averaging 3.47 runs allowed.

Jacob Aponte made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Mitchell: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-7 otherwise.

Mitchell now has a losing record of 7-8. As for Nature Coast Tech, their win bumped their record up to 13-2.

Coming up, Mitchell will take on Countryside at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Mustangs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Nature Coast Tech, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 5-4 victory against South Sumter on the 19th.
