Softball Game Preview: Clayton Comets vs. Corinth Holders Pirates

The Clayton Comets will face off against the Corinth Holders Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Neither Clayton nor Corinth Holders posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Clayton made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Fuquay - Varina, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Comets fell just short of the Bengals by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Corinth Holders hadn't done well against Willow Spring recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Pirates never let the Storm get on the board and left with a 2-0 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted since March 3rd.

The result came thanks to Elizabeth McKenzie's shutout, as she gave up just eight hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ava Marks was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

The win made it two in a row for Corinth Holders and bumps their season record up to 14-6. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games. As for Clayton, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-7.
