Preview: Wesson Cobras vs. Jefferson County Tigers
The Wesson Cobras will head out on the road to face off against the Jefferson County Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wesson is looking to tack on another W to their eight-game streak on the road.
Wesson put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Friday. They put the hurt on South Pike with a sharp 42-20 victory. With Wesson ahead 21-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Wesson found their leader in underclassman O'mari Johnson, who rushed for 123 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.2 yards per carry, and also picked up 120 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Deshawn Smith and his 107 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Wesson's victory.
Meanwhile, Jefferson County came up short against South Pike two weeks ago and fell 30-22.
Jefferson County's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jabari Watson, who rushed for 46 yards and a touchdown, and Royale Shelvy who picked up 133 receiving yards and a touchdown. Shelvy's longest reception was for an incredible 82 yards.
Wesson's victory lifted them to 8-0 while Jefferson County's loss dropped them down to 5-3.
Things could have been worse for Wesson, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 48-34 loss to Jefferson County when the teams last played back in October of 2016. Can Wesson avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
