Basketball Recap: Williamsport Piles Up the Points Against Smithsburg

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Williamsport's strategy against Smithsburg on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Williamsport Wildcats blew the Smithsburg Leopards out of the water with a 79-44 final score. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 20 points or more this season.

Williamsport got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jahmeir Byrd out in front who went 11 for 16 en route to 23 points. Byrd's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Ceonta Wilmore was another key player, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Williamsport smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive matchups.

Williamsport pushed their record up to 13-3 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 30.7 points. As for Smithsburg, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Williamsport will venture away from home to take on Middletown at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Middletown knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Williamsport likes a good challenge. As for Smithsburg, they will head out on the road to face off against Boonsboro at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
